Blood test equipment: how the shortage may affect you

There is currently a global shortage of vials used for blood tests - and the NHS in England and Wales is advising of disruption to blood testing.

The shortage of blood testing equipment is currently affecting the availability of blood tests across the UK, including Milton Keynes.

If you need a blood test for urgent health problems you will still get one. If your doctor or clinician recommends that it’s safe to do so, then you may be asked to come back for a test at a later date, or your appointment may be rescheduled.

Given the nature of the shortage, the NHS cannot give an exact date for when the test will be rescheduled. If you have a condition or symptoms that need a blood test, you will get one and tests will be re-booked as soon as test supplies become more easily available.

If your condition or symptoms change or get worse, please contact the NHS as you would normally.
