Maternity care at Milton Keynes Hospital rated 'good' by CQC

Maternity services at Milton Keynes University Hospital have been assessed as 'Good' by the Care Quality Commission (CQC for short). They have been rated as 'Outstanding' for leadership.

The inspection was carried out in March this year, and MKUH is only the second 'acute' Trust in the country to receive 'Outstanding' in the 'well-led' category.

The Hospital reports that significant improvements are already in place for the future, which address the recommendations made in the CQC report. These include:

  • Revamping the maternity website pages, ensuring easy access to information and guidelines affecting parents.
  • Relaunching ante-natal classes with Maternity Voices Partnership MK.
  • Introducing a birth preferences pack and dedicated birth planning appointments.
  • Staff are having 'cultural competency training.
  • New consent forms that are designed with women and prospective parents.
  • Consultant midwives to contact all women if they are due to be induced.
