Role Title: Chair of the Board of Trustees

Remuneration: Unpaid voluntary position with travel expenses reimbursed

We are seeking a new Chair to provide leadership to the organisation and help take our ambitious work forward.

Healthwatch Milton Keynes is the local consumer champion for the provision of high quality and effective health, wellbeing and social care services for all, across Milton Keynes. It is registered with the Charity Commission as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). The Board of Trustees, which is elected by the members of Healthwatch Milton Keynes, oversees the organisation's governance and is responsible for policy-setting and for the management of the organisation.

Our mission is to be an independent organisation, providing an effective local voice for people in Milton Keynes, influencing and shaping health and social care services to meet their needs.

The Chair of the Board serves as the Chair of Healthwatch Milton Keynes, assisted currently by two Deputies. Our current Chair is stepping down after many years of service with Healthwatch Milton Keynes.

As well as having the passion and drive to make a difference to health and social care services in Milton Keynes you will need the right mix of proven experience at a strategic level and enthusiasm for a new challenge. You will also have a track record of achieving change through influence and be able to provide the governance and leadership we need to achieve our goals.

The key tasks include:

• Providing leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees so as to enable the board to fulfil their responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation.

• To work with the Chief Executive to ensure that Healthwatch Milton Keynes is managed efficiently, effectively and in line with its constitutional and statutory obligations, its code of conduct and best practice.

• Attending strategic level meetings representing Healthwatch Milton Keynes.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with an organisation at a key point in its development. We are looking for someone to lead and support Healthwatch Milton Keynes who shares our vision and ambition to achieve the best health and care services possible, shaped by local needs and experiences. A new Chair will be elected by the Board of Trustees at its meeting on September 11th, 2019, and the incoming Chair will serve an initial term of four years, subject to the provisions of the Constitution. At present, the Board has 8 members.

The current time commitment is 6 Board of Trustees' meetings per year, plus the Annual General Meeting and any Extra- Ordinary meetings that may be called. The Chair is also expected to have regular meetings with the CEO and Deputy Chair(s), and to represent Healthwatch Milton Keynes at various events and meetings with key stakeholders, some of which will be held in the evening.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a formal interview by the Board of Trustees and to give a ten-minute presentation, without PowerPoint, to a group of internal and external stakeholders. This is scheduled for the week commencing 1st April.
